Industrial input devices should be selected as part of the complete equipment design. The right choice depends on the environment, operator, mounting structure, interface and maintenance routine.
Start with the operating environment
Document exposure to liquids, dust, chemicals, salt air, temperature extremes, impact and cleaning procedures. An IP rating alone does not describe every real-world requirement.
Confirm integration details
Share available dimensions, panel cutout, mounting direction, cable path, connector and host system. Early confirmation prevents avoidable redesign during prototyping.
Evaluate operator needs
Consider gloves, key travel, layout, language, backlighting and whether the application needs a touchpad, trackball or joystick.
